Thanks to donations from fans, officials and teams participating in the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Softball Europe/Africa Olympic qualification tournament in Utrecht in July, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and the Royal Netherlands Baseball Softball Federation (KNBSB) have confirmed that over €2,000 was raised for the Softball against Cancer campaign.

Softball against Cancer was started in 2016 by Dutch softball international Ginger de Weert as a softball clinic for young players with proceeds going to the Queen Wilhelmina Foundation, which is leading the fight against cancer in the Netherlands.

Together with her teammates from the Dutch Softball team, de Weert provides the opportunity to young softball stars to participate in an annual clinic. WBSC and KNBSB have been strong supporters of the initiative and took the opportunity of the Olympic qualifier, which saw Italy qualify for Tokyo 2020 next year, to help with the campaign by collecting donations on one day during the tournament.
