WBSC Baseball Softball Executives, Commissions meeting at Italian National Olympic Committee

The weekend programme (19-20 Jan.) includes meetings of the WBSC Executive Board and various Commissions, including the Athletes Commission, Coaches Commission, Tournament/World Cup Commission and Urban Baseball5 Commission.

ROME, Italy — The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Executive Board as well as various Commissions will meet this weekend (19-20 January) at the headquarters of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) in Rome.

Discussions will include the use of technology and a review on game tempo, including reviews of pitch clocks, between-inning clocks, visits to the mound and other measures to limit interruptions to game-action, while streamlining the length of the game. WBSC leaders are in a process of pushing the evolution of the sport, aiming not only to hit a ‘home run’ at the Tokyo 2020 Games, but also to keep the only bat-and-ball Olympic sport on the programme beyond 2020.

Also on the agenda is a review of the 2019-2020 international calendar, which will be highlighted by Olympic qualifiers, various Baseball and Softball World Cups, the global flagship Premier12 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

On Sunday, the WBSC Executive Board will meet throughout the day. The top-level meeting will open with an address from WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.
