WBSC discusses new strategic plan to ensure continued growth of baseball-softball

The new WBSC strategic plan for 2021-2024 will be presented to the WBSC Executive Board for approval in November.

The WBSC recently began discussions for its new strategic plan which will help guide the International Federation’s efforts for the upcoming four-year period between 2021 and 2024, ensuring the continued growth of baseball and softball worldwide.

The meeting, led by WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, was the first-ever to be held in the Home Plate boardroom at the new WBSC headquarters, as it welcomed staff from Pully, Switzerland and around the world via video conference. Staff were presented with an initial draft working document and were able to give their first input on the future direction of the sport.

Following fruitful and productive discussions, eight goals were decided upon including: to improve the standing of the WBSC in the Olympic Movement; to strengthen its governance, structure and operations; to promote event excellence; to make baseball and softball a greater part of communities around the world, and to focus on youth development.

Additionally, future meetings and workshops will be planned to further develop this new strategic plan, with the aim to present it to the WBSC Executive Board for approval in November, 2020.

Following the meeting, WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said: “It was fitting that a meeting to discuss the WBSC’s future strategic plan was the first-ever to be held in our new home’s boardroom and included WBSC staff from around the world.

“Going forward, we will be able to benefit from the wide-range of perspectives and viewpoints of our diverse staff. I have no doubt that this new strategic plan will become integral in our efforts to develop baseball-softball around the world, and I am very excited by the prospect of bringing the joy of our sport to more communities around the world.”
