WBSC Premier12 alum Dalbec named MLB American League Rookie of the Month

The 25-year-old slugger hit seven home runs and drove in 21 runs over 24 games.

Major League Baseball (MLB) named Bobby Dalbec, who represented the United States at the II WBSC Premier12, the American League Rookie of the Month for August.

Dalbec hit seven home runs and drove in 21 runs over 24 games played for the Boston Red Sox.

He made his MLB debut in 2020 but stayed below the 130-at-bat limit and still qualified as a rookie in 2021.

Dalbec has appeared in 114 games out of 140 the Red Sox played in 2021.

He started all of the eight games the US played at the Premier12 2019, four at first base and four at DH. He went 7-for-28, .250 batting average, with two home runs and eight runs batted in.

MLB has honoured the Rookie of the Year since 1947. Jackie Robinson was the first player to be honoured. Starting in 1949, MLB has awarded a player in the National League and a player in the American League.

MLB first gave the Rookie of the Month Award in 2001. The National League Rookie of August is Frank Schwindel, Chicago Cubs.
