A technical team from the Italian Blind Baseball Association (AIBxC) formed by Stefano Malaguti, Eva Trevisan, Angel Argentieri and Giorgio Napoli conducted a clinic.

With the support of the WBSC, baseball for the blind landed in the Netherlands this past weekend with a successful clinic held in Beek, a town in the southeast of the country, nestled close to the Belgium border. A group of visually impaired people of all ages participated in the clinic, hosted at IKS (Iederen Kan Sporten, “Everyone can Exercise”), a sports organization for the visually impaired.

A technical team from the Italian Blind Baseball Association (AIBxC) formed by Stefano Malaguti, Eva Trevisan, Angel Argentieri and Giorgio Napoli conducted the clinic.

During the classroom session, Malaguti explained the philosophy and basics of the game, and then Trevisan (a sighted player and coach), Argentieri (coach) and Napoli (player) shared their experiences with the game.

The group then moved to the Cheetah baseball field where the attendees were introduced into the fundamentals of baseball for the blind, including practical demonstration from Napoli. To complete the day, the group played a game.

“We have little sports offerings in Limburg for people with a visual impairment,” said Chantal Bos from IKS, to the local newspaper De Limburger. “With this clinic we want to see if we can offer this sport in the future.”

WBSC will continue supporting blind baseball development with a clinic in Austria on 30-31 October.
