Right handed pitcher Po-Yu Chen, who helped Chinese Taipei win the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2019 in Gijang, Korea, has signed a Major League Baseball (MLB) contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. His signing bonus was worth a reported US$ 1.25 million.

General manager Ben Cherington told The Athletic that the Pirates scouted Po Yu Chen extensively over the past three years.

Po Yu Chen appeared in three games for Chinese Taipei and earned the win in both games he started - against Panama in round-robin play and against Korea in the Super Round. He allowed only two earned runs over 14 innings of work.
