West Asia Baseball Cup set to begin on 15 July

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played from 1 to 6 July, but this would have made it a coincident event with the cricket World Cup. Pakistan and Sri Lanka asked the Baseball Federation of Asia to postpone the Cup

Due to a request by the Pakistan Baseball Federation and the Sri Lankan Amateur Baseball Association, the Baseball Federation of Asia postponed the West Asia Baseball Cup 2019. The tournament is now scheduled from 15 to 20 July.

The original dates (1-6 July) made the West Asia Baseball Cup and the cricket World Cup (London, England, from 30 May to 14 July) coincident events.

Syed Fakhar Ali Shah, the President of Pakistan Baseball Federation, explained that not moving the tournament would have harmed the development of baseball in the Region: “Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India all participate in the West Asia Baseball Cup and are Countries deeply interested in cricket.”

Sri Lanka will be the defending Champion at the West Asia Baseball Cup 2019.

The Pakistan Baseball Federation also announced that the National Baseball Championship will be held in Multan in September.
