Bangladesh: Women's Baseball Championship set to open

The fourth edition of the tournament is scheduled from 9 to 11 September. The Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Federation is planning upcoming men's and junior men's championships.

The Bangladesh Baseball and Softball Federation (BBSF) will open its season with the fourth Bangladesh Women's Baseball Championship. The tournament is scheduled for 9 to 11 September at the Paltan Maidan in the capital, Dhaka.

"It will be our first competition this year," said BBSF Secretary-General Aminul Islam Liton in an interview with the Daily Sun. "The championship was scheduled to be held last March, but the Sports Ministry abandoned all sporting activities in the wake of the coronavirus."

The Ministry for Youth and Sports allowed National Federations to resume their sports operations on a limited scale with strict health measures beginning on 10 August.

BBSF said in a statement they would follow all health measures, including setting up a thermal scanner at the venue.

Baseball season in Bangladesh will also include, at a later date, the men's and junior men's championships.

All of the 2020 baseball activity will honour the centennial of the birth of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1920-1975), the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh after its independence. Rahman's elder daughter, Sheikh Hasina Waze, is the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
