World Softball Hall of Famer Bob Van Impe passes away

Canadian WBSC World Softball Hall of Famer Bob Van Impe passed away on Friday 16 November, 2018, in Saskatoon, Canada. Van Impe was 96 years old.

Canadian WBSC World Softball Hall of Famer Bob Van Impe passed away on Friday 16 November, 2018, in Saskatoon, Canada. Van Impe was 96 years old.

Van Impe was inducted into the World Softball Hall of Fame in 1987 for his lifelong work as an administrator of Softball Canada and the former International Softball Federation (ISF).

Mr. Van Impe was Commissioner of Softball Canada from 1966 to 1968, and was elected President of Softball Canada in 1968, serving until 1986. He also served as ISF 1st Vice President from 1974-1987, and was elected ISF Vice President/North America in 1987.

In 1984 Bob Van Impe Stadium, located in the Gordie Howe Sports Complex, in Saskatton, Canada, was named after him.

A funeral service for Mr. Van Impe will take place at at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church (211 Avenue O South) in Saskatoon, on 21 November.
