Anthony Pluta to return as Canada's Women's Baseball National Team manager

"I'm honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to manage the Women's National Team once again in 2024 and have a chance to win a world championship," said Pluta. His coaching staff will include Patricia Landry, Aaron Myette, Kate Psota and Ashley Stephenson.

Baseball Canada announced that Anthony Pluta will return as Women's National Team manager for the IX WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Finals, presented by CARNEXT, which Canada will host on home soil in Thunder Bay, Ontario, from 28 July to 3 August 2024.

Born in California, USA, in 1982, Pluta played 11 minor league seasons as a right-handed pitcher. After retiring, he settled in Victoria, British Columbia. He joined Baseball Canada's women's programme in 2021 and served as the pitching coach in the 2022 Friendship Series against the United States.

"I'm honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to manage the Women's National Team once again in 2024 and have a chance to win a world championship," said Pluta.

Pluta led Canada to second place in the 2023 Group Stage.

"We had excellent showing last summer in front of the Canadian fans in Thunder Bay," he added so having the opportunity to go back and compete against the best teams in the world is something that we’re really looking forward to.”

Pluta's staff will include coaches Patricia Landry, Aaron Myette, Kate Psota (who had presented a WBSC Academy tutorial on Getting Acquainted: Stories from Women's Baseball Players) and former WBSC Athlete Representative Ashley Stephenson.
