George Harris, Jakub Vasicek help Czechia defeat Israel in Placement Round opener

The Czechs scored multiple runs on three of their four at-bats to reign in the all-Europe matchup.

George Harris and Jakub Vasicek combined for five RBIs in Czechia's 9-0 five-inning win over Israel in the first game of the Placement Round of the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup on Tuesday. The Czechs scored multiple runs on three of their four at-bats to reign in the all-Europe matchup.

After a scoreless first inning, Adam Buchner gave Czechia the lead with an RBI single to center field in the second. Moments later, Vasicek crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

George Harris knocked in Martin Magula from second base with a single in the next inning. Then with the bases loaded, Vasicek hit a single to right field to score Harris and Jakub Hajny. The European champions led at 5-0.

A two-run triple by Harris highlighted a four-run rally for Czechia in the fourth inning to mount the decisive 9-0 lead.

For Czechia, Lukas Kubat pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and a walk, with seven strikeouts.

Czechia sit atop of the Super Round standings with 3-0 record, while Israel moved down to 1-2.
