Larry Castro appointed as Swiss Women's National Softball Team head coach

The Spaniard takes over from Corina Grass, who successfully led the team in recent years.

The Swiss Baseball and Softball Federation (SBSF) announced the appointment of Larry Castro as their new Women's National Softball Team head coach. The Spaniard takes over from Corina Grass, who has successfully led the team in recent years and will continue to coach the U-18 and U-22 national teams.

Castro brings a lot of international experience at the highest softball level. He worked as a trainer for the Italian National Team in their preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He also coached in the Italian Serie A1, and has been coaching the Wittenbach Panthers in Switzerland since 2022, leading the young team to the championship title in both years.

Castro said his main goal is to build a playing identity that guarantees success in elite international softball competitions.

"First, we'll select players with qualities to adapt to the playing identity of the national team," he said. "Then, we'll apply training programs focused on the development of elite players, to finally increase Switzerland's participation in international tournaments."

Switzerland is ranked No. 40 in the world.

In 2024 the Swiss Women's National Softball Team will play at the European Championships, where they'll try to improve on a 17th-place performance in 2022.
