Australian outfielder Ryan King had an outstanding offensive performance on Monday against Mexico, as he drove in the team's four runs of the game. His compatriot, left-handed ace Jack Besgrove, dominated the circle with another magnificent game, leading the 4-1 win that secured their spot in the Super Round of the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup.
King went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs in the game. In the bottom of the first inning, he knocked in Riley James with a single to right field to put Australia in front 1-0. And two innings later, he sent the first pitch over the left field for a three-run homer to extend the Australian lead to 4-0.
Mexico scored their only run of the game in the fifth. They loaded the bases on a pair of hits by pitches and a walk, with two outs, as Jesus Sonora scored on a wild pitch. However, Besgrove forced Manuel Zepeda to a grounder, ending the threat.
Besgrove tossed seven innings of two-hit ball, with one run and one walk. He struck out 10.
Australia advanced to the Super Round with a 4-0 record in Group A. Mexico dropped to 3-1 and will close the Opening Round against South Africa on Tuesday.
