Aleshia Ocasio scored the lone run of the game and pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Puerto Rico to a 1-0 win over Canada to earn fifth place at The World Games.
The only run of the game was scored in the first inning. Ocasio hit a double to right field, and two outs later crossed the plate on a double to center field by veteran first baseman Karla Claudio.
With the early lead, Ocasio pitched a gem giving up only 2 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. She received support from her defense, who made some sparkling plays.
Jorde Chartrand had a solid outing but took the loss for Canada, after pitching four innings in which she allowed 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3. Nicola Simpson allowed 2 hits in 3 innings of work, with 1 strikeout.
Puerto Rico finishes The World Games in fifth place, while Canada (bronze medal in the latest two World Championships and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics) ends the tournament in sixth place.
