Tyler Early, Leyland Henry lift USA past Korea 5-1

Early was masterful on the mound, at bat and in rightfield. Henry hit a tie-breaking three-run homer. The USA need just one more win.

Starting pitcher Tyler Early threw five innings against Korea, striking out nine, allowing two hits and four walks, and his leaping catch retired the last out of the night, securing the United States their third win, 5-1, at the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. Leyland Henry hit a tie-breaking three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.

The first three innings were uneventful, despite roaring crowds supporting both sides. Starting pitchers Tyler Early and Jinwoong Lee posted an old-fashioned pitching duel.

In the bottom of the fourth, after USA’s Nicholis Parker Jr. singled through the right side and Tyler Early got hit by a pitch, Leyland Henry hit a three-run moonshot, giving the US the lead.

Korea got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when Jeongwoo scored on a balk.

The US scored two insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame. Greyson Wuis got hit by a pitch, stole two bases, and eventually scored on Parker Jr.’s sacrifice fly. Micah Delos Reyes added a run, extending the lead to 5-1.

Paris Head pitched a scoreless sixth with the help of Early’s brilliant leaping catch that closed the game.

The USA will finish the Opening Round against Czechia, while Korea will play against New Zealand; both games will take place at 14.30 local time. The two teams will need a win to advance to the Super Round.
