13th June: Let’s celebrate World Softball Day!

Softball lovers around the world can join the party sharing their softball message and/or photo on social media, along with the hashtag #WorldSoftballDay.

June 13 is a special day in the calendar for every softball lover, with the annual celebration of World Softball Day. Every year on this date, softball people around the globe come together as a global community to display the love for the game.

“With less than a month for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage in Ireland, I invite everyone today to display their passion for the game we love,” said WBSC Softball Chairman Craig Cress. “World Softball Day is not only an occasion to celebrate our sport’s past milestones, but also to showcase how much our sport can change lives and communities around the world.”

The creation of World Softball Day was inspired by the 13 June announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1991 that women’s softball was to be, for the first time in history, included on the Olympic programme, starting with the Atlanta 1996 Games.

To mark softball's historic rise into an Olympic sport, in 2005 the then International Softball Federation (ISF) president, Don Porter, declared that 13 June would become World Softball Day.

Softball fans can join the celebration sharing their softball message and/or photo on social media, along with the hashtag #WorldSoftballDay.

Back in 2015, the WBSC unveiled the World Softball Day official logo and look, which is meant to represent the colours of the world's flags and a softball, mixing together and uniting for World Softball Day. The dynamic and diverse shapes embrace each other, merging together through a spectrum of colours to form the central softball icon.
