Australian Prime Minister, Government to invest $10 million in baseball initiatives

Australian leaders and officials have confirmed investments in baseball initiatives in capital city Canberra and Perth that total more than $AUS 10 million.

Australian governmental leaders have confirmed investments in baseball initiatives in capital city Canberra and Perth that total more than $AUS 10 million.

The Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, has pledged $AUS 6 million to expand the home of baseball in Western Australia, according to news.com.au.

Funds will be used to boost the capacity of Baseball Park in the City of Gosnells, where Australian Baseball League (ABL) club Perth Heat is based.

Through the baseball initiative, Australian government officials are also targeting job-growth within the sports and recreation sector.

The Australia PM praised the efforts of the Heat in setting a great example to young people about the benefits of fitness.

It was also recently announced that the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government will invest $AUS 4.5 million in upgrades to the home stadium of ABL club Canberra Cavalry, according to the Canberra Times.

Canberra officials are hoping the renovation will further the city’s position of attracting top-tier national and world-level baseball events.

Australia is currently ranked 13th in baseball’s world rankings.

The ABL, Australia’s professional baseball league, is an  Associate Member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
