Game C1: Puerto Rico gets 7 strikeouts from Meghan Marie King, win 2-0 over China

An ace performance by Meghan Marie King carried Puerto Rico to a 2-0 win in eight innings over China on Thursday at OGE Energy Field.

Puerto Rico’s King pitched a complete game shutout on three hits while ringing up seven.

The game was scoreless through regulation until Sabrina Stutman hit a sacrifice fly scoring Shemiah Sanchez. The next batter later, Kiara Resto hit another sacrifice fly to score Yahelis Munoz Cardona.

Ping Fan was charged with the loss. She pitched all but one out, with five walks, three strike outs, and allowed one run.

Puerto Rico now advances in the playoff round to play Mexico Friday at 11:00.

China will face Chinese Taipei game in the placement round Friday at 14:30.

Game C2: Great game from Czech Republic’s Veronika Peckova not enough in 2-1 loss to New Zealand

Veronika Peckova finally met her match as Czech Republic fell to New Zealand 2-1 at OGE Energy Field.

Peckova handled New Zealand’s lineup with ease, racking up 12 strikeouts with no earned runs on two hits and no walks in the complete game. But Czech Republic couldn’t come up with the run support against New Zealand.

New Zealand took the early lead scoring two runs in the first inning with runs by Mereana Makea and Mikayla Werahiko.

Czech Republic scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Tereza Kubicova but was unable to overcome the two run deficit.

Courtney Gettins got the win for New Zealand, allowing one run over seven innings. She struck out two, walked none and gave up six hits.

New Zealand now advances in the playoff round to play Canada Friday at 12:00.

Czech Republic advances in the placement round to play Italy Friday at 13:30.

Game C3: Defending champion, Japan, continues to dominate with 6-0 victory over Mexico

Japan pieced together runs on seven hits, including two extra base hits on route to a 6-0 victory over Mexico at OGE Energy Field.

Japan – who has yet to be scored on in this championship – started things in the third off Chiharu Nasu’s triple scoring Kyouko Ishikawa.

In this fifth, Japan opened things up scoring three runs on a two-run triple by Erika Ishino and a passed ball.

Yeraldin Carrion took the loss for Mexico. She lasted 4 1/3 innings, walked six, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

Haruka Fukui got the win tossing six innings and racking up twelve strikeouts.

Mexico also remains in the playoff bracket to face Puerto Rico Friday at 11:00.

Japan advances in the playoff round to play USA Friday at 19:30.

Game C4: USA’s offense continued to shine rolling to a 15-0 win over Canada to remain undefeated

USA surged to a big win Thursday at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex. USA’s offense continued to shine, rolling to a 15-0 (three inning) win over Canada to remain undefeated. Kelly Barnhill was dominant once again in the circle as she gave up only one hit in the win.

Canada came out strong in the first inning as Kelsey Jenkins hit a double in the first at-bat. From that point on it was all USA as they responded in kind in the bottom of the first. Sydney Romero started things with a two-run double that brought in Nicole DeWitt and Jenna Lilley.

USA broke the game open in the second, as hits from Lilley, DeWitt and Madilyn Nickles led to additional runs. Alyssa Palomino continued her hot streak with a two-run home run, her third at the WBSC JWWC.

USA closed out the game with a huge third inning filled with seven runs en route to the big win. Palomino brought in two more runs that inning with a triple.

Madison Clarke took the loss for Canada, as she lasted only one and one-third innings and gave up six earned runs.

Wins from Japan and USA today have set up a showdown between the two teams Friday night at OGE Energy Field at 19:30.

Canada advances to play New Zealand in the playoff round Friday at 12:00.

Game PR1: Strong pitching leads Italy past Argentina 4-0

Serena Boniardi was able to keep Argentina off the board during her seven innings in the circle earning a 4-0 victory for Italy. She allowed five hits, no walks and struck out seven.

In the fourth inning, Italy got on the board scoring one run when Marta Gasparotto doubled to left field driving Erika Piancastelli home.

Italy extended their lead in the fifth adding three more runs. Melany Sheldon poked a ball through to center field to score Fabrizia Marrone. The next batter, Piancastelli, hit a two-run homer to bring the score to 4-0.

Mo Candelaria Acuna took the loss. She walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

Italy now advances in the placement round to play Czech Republic Friday at 13:30.

Game PR2: Second-inning rally sparks win for Chinese Taipei, 10-0

Chinese Taipei jumped out to an early lead on Colombia to capture the 10-0 victory on Thursday at Integris Field.

The game was decided quickly as Chinese Taipei exerted its will early with seven runs in the second inning. RBIs singles by Chia Fang Wu, I Ting Chih, Yi Hsuan Su, Chih Ying Lin, and Chia Ching Shih, plus a fielder’s choice and RBI ground out by Chia Yang fueled Chinese Taipei’s offense early.

Kai Han Yang recorded the win for Chinese Taipei. She tossed three innings of shutout ball, striking out three on four hits.

Jalena Arthur was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed 10 runs in three innings, walked one and struck out none.

Chinese Taipei will now face China in the placement round Friday at 14:30.

Game PR3: Fernanda Shiroma leads Brazil to 6-3 victory thanks to 5 strikeouts

Brazil captured their first win of the championship as Fernanda Shiroma threw nine scoreless innings to carry Brazil to a 6-3 (12 innings) victory over Great Britain.

Brazil was sparked by Mariana Pereira and Rebeca Laudino, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

Neither team scored until the fourth when Great Britain scored on an RBI single by Ashleigh Carolan. Brazil forced the game into extra innings after scoring in the top of the seventh.

Great Britain scored one run of its own in the ninth on a passed ball.

After posting one run in the ninth on an RBI single by Pereira, plating Camila Yokota, Brazil again scored one in the tenth.

It didn’t take long for Great Britain to respond as it scored one run of its own in the tenth, on an RBI double by Lauren Evans.

Brazil never surrendered the lead after the twelfth inning, scoring three runs on two singles.

Georgina Corrick pitched the entire game allowing one earned run on 10 hits.

Brazil will advance in the placement round to play the winner of China/Chinese Taipei Friday at 18:30.
