BRASSCHAAT, Belgium – The first G-Sports Wheelchair Softball Tournament was held in Belgium with more than 75 athletes from all ages and skill levels, with or without disabilities competing against each other.

The Royal Belgium Baseball and Softball Federation – the national governing body for baseball and softball in Belgium and a WBSC member – hosted the eight-team event in Flanders.

“G-Sports” are part of an inclusive platform for all kids and adults with various disabilities to partake in sports competition and to be a part of the sports culture – and to have fun and enjoy the benefits of sport.

The final of the Wheelchair Softball Tournament was played between a team of established baseball and softball coaches and an all-star team of wheelchair tennis players and athletes of Forest Wheels. Requiring extra innings, the eventual winner was Forest Wheels.

Wheelchair softball teams held their first-ever practice sessions at the Peerdsbos indoors sport centre in Brasschaat in November 2016.
