U-21 World Champs Chinese Taipei unveil Roster, Day 1 Pitcher for U-23 Baseball World Cup 2016

World No. 4 Chinese Taipei released the nation’s roster for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2016, which opens Friday (28 October) in Monterrey, Mexico.

TAIPEI – World No. 4 Chinese Taipei announced the nation’s roster for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2016, which opens Friday (28 October) in Monterrey, Mexico.  The roster representing Chinese Taipei in Monterrey features elite players from local universities, as well as players currently active in the Major League Baseball (MLB) farm system.

Chinese Taipei’s infield will be highlighted by U-18 Baseball World Cup 2010 MVP and world champion Tzu-Wei Lin, who plays in the Boston Red Sox organisation.  On the mound, pitcher Pin-Hsueh Chen is in the Cleveland Indians organisation.

Manager Kuo-Lee Chien-Fu, a 1992 Olympic silver medallist, has had the National Team training together since mid-October.

The Chinese Taipei leader announced pitcher Yi-Zhong Liao, who has four pitches and throws in the high 80s to low 90s (147 km/h), will be the Day 1 starter against No. 27 Argentina on Friday.

Chinese Taipei’s U-23 roster also features catcher Ming-Hung Wu and infielder Yi-Hung Chen from the Chinese Taipei’s  U-21 world championship 2014 roster, while pitcher Yen-Ching Lu represented Chinese Taipei in the flagship WBSC PREMIER12 2015.

Chinese Taipei will begin the U-23 world championship tournament in Group B and will look to finish among the top three nations in the group to advance to the Super Round.

A rematch of the Final of the U-21 Baseball World Cup 2014 is set for Saturday, when Chinese Taipei battles rival and world No. 1 Japan.
