A recent site inspection has confirmed that the organisation of the 2014 U15 Baseball World Cup in Baja California Sur, Mexico is meeting the scheduled timeline, as existing competition venues are being modernized to meet international standards ahead of the U15 Baseball World Cup’s opening day on the 1st of August.

International Baseball Federation’s 1st Vice-President/Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE) President Alonso Pérez González, who led the inspection with local organising committee and government officials from the state of Baja California Sur, confirmed Baja California Sur has “great stadiums” and indicated that the young athletes representing their countries will be excited to participate in the 2nd U15 Baseball World Cup, which will have “optimum facilities” in Cabo San Lucas, Ciudad Constitución and La Paz.

IBAF President Riccardo Fraccari has expressed confidence in the youth-focused Baseball World Cups (U12, U15, U18 and U21) to generate a sustainable international platform for IBAF’s National Federations to build National Team brands across the globe.

“The 2014 U15 Baseball World Cup in Baja California Sur promises to be an excellent showpiece of international baseball – of youth sport – and will provide an exceptional experience for the world’s best young baseball players and the countries they proudly represent,” said Fraccari.

Local organisers reported that there is a great excitement and awareness building within the community for the upcoming international youth baseball showcase that runs from 1-10 August.

The inaugural 2012 U15 Baseball World Cup — which was successfully hosted by FEMEBE in Chihuahua, Mexico – brought together fifteen National Teams (in order of final standings: 1. Venezuela, 2. Cuba , 3. Chinese Taipei, 4. Mexico, 5. Brazil, 6., Nicaragua, 7. Honduras, 8. Argentina, 9. Aruba, 10. Italy, 11. Germany, 12. Hong Kong, 13. Ukraine, 14. Lithuania, 15. Indonesia).

The first edition of U15 Baseball World Cup also marked historical precedents for both Indonesia and Ukraine, as it was the first-ever inclusion in a baseball world championship for both countries.

FEMEBE recently announced that Chihuahua will also serve as the host city of Mexico’s 2014 national U15 tournament ahead of the 2014 Baseball World Cup, ensuring the sustainable legacy of the 2012 U15 Baseball World Cup and maximizing the benefits to the local community/economy.
