Cuba in Quebec to get in shape for U-18 Baseball World Cup

LA SALLE, Canada-Cuba will warm up for the Under 18 Baseball World Cup in the Elite Junior League of Quebec. Rodger Brulotte, President of the League, believes it’s the biggest event of their history

The Cuban National Team will get ready for the upcoming WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup playing games against the 13 teams competing in the Elite Junior League of Quebec (LBJÉQ), the most important Summer League of Canada. Cuba will add 2 more games against the teams of the Canadian Academy.

“It’s the biggest event in the history of the League,” commented President Rodger Brulotte.

Cuba will play the inaugural game of the series against the Cardinals of La Salle on 3 July and will complete the tour in Montreal on 21 and 22 July. Charlesbourg, Repentigny, Granby, Longueuil, Coaticook, St-Eustache, Quebec, Saguenay, Gatineau, Laval and Trois-Rivières will also host games.

Cuba has had a strong tie with Canada for some time now, especially with the Can Am League, where a total of 5 players from Cuba played the 2016 season.

The WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup® 2017 will be staged from 1-10 September in Thunder Bay, Canada.
Cuba will compete in group B together with Japan, USA, Mexico, The Netherlands and South Africa.
Canada, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Australia, Italy and Nicaragua will play in group A.
The Cuba National Team finished fifth in the 2015 edition of the tournament and qualified to the 2017 U18 Baseball World Cup with a second place in the 2016 Pan Am Games.
