Softball World Championship: Chinese Taipei wins 2 in Akitsu

Chinese Taipei only needed 4 innings to win 21-0 against South Africa and beat, 7-4, New Zealand in a harder fought game. Also South Africa played 2 games on the day. They lost the second 10-0 against the Philippines

Chinese Taipei won both games in the double header that marked their debut day in the Women’s Softball World Championship in Akitsu Field, Chiba.

Chinese Taipei needed only 4 innings to beat, 21-0, South Africa.
Chinese Taipei was off an impressive start against Marianke Van der Merwe and broke the score open with a six run first inning. Chinese Taipei got 5 hits, including a double by catcher Chiu An Ju and a two run homer by designated player Chan Chia Yi.
Chinese Taipei added 2 runs in the third and rallied for 13 in the fourth. Chan, third baseman Su Yi Hsuan (solo shots) and second baseman Lin Feng Chen (two runs) contributed with home runs.
Chiu An Ju went the distance for Chinese Taipei, allowing only one 2 hits.

The Phillippines debuted with a win in 4 innings against South Africa

Chinese Taipei finished the day with another win: 7-4 against New Zealand. Right fielder Lai Meng Ting led off with single to left and 2 runs scored on a base hit by shortstop Yang Yi Ting.
Chinese Taipei added a run in the bottom of the third on a deep single to left by Li Szu Shih

New Zealand got the first hit in the bottom of the third and got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Lara Ann Andrews, who scored Elizabeth Cooper from first.
Chinese Taipei added 3 runs in the top of the sixth. Chen Chia Yi launched her third homer of the day.
New Zealand stroke right back against reliever Lin Su Hua, forcing Chinese Taipei to call Lin Ying Hsin back to close the game.

Also the Philippines got started with a win as they beat South Africa 10-0 in 4 innings.
Mary Ann Antolihao and Sierra Lange combined a two hitter and the Philippines needed just two at bats to score all their runs. In the second, catcher Francesca Altomonte tripled and Arianne Vallestero homered to highlight a six run rally. The Philippines added 4 more runs in the fourth. Shortstop Garnet Blando walked off the game with a triple.
