WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier: Australia; Hong Kong China take lead in Group A; China, Philippines win in Group B

The WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier opened today at the Shanghai Sports Training Center. Australia and Hong Kong China lead Group A; while China and Philippines won their respective games in Group B.

Hong Kong, China 6-5 Indonesia

In a nail-biting finish Hong Kong China edged Indonesia 6-5 in the extra 8^th inning, after both teams were level 4-4, in the opening Group B match in the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the Shanghai Chongming Sports Training Center this morning.

Australia 5-1 Chinese Taipei

Taylah Tsitsikronis produced three runs and Kaia Parnaby pitched a complete game to lead Australia to its first win in the tournament over Chinese Taipei by a score of 5-1. Australia and Hong Kong, China lead Group B after the first day of competition. Tomorrow Australia will face Indonesia, while Chinese Taipei will take on Hong Kong, China.

New Zealand 3-8 China

Hosts China overcame a rude early shock to trail New Zealand to chalk a convincing 8-3 win in their opening Group A match in the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the Shanghai Chongming Sports Training Center.

Philippines 10-1 Korea

It looked like a runaway victory for Philippines, but they are remaining modest over their 10-1 win against Korea in the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the Shanghai Chongming Sports Training Center.
