Doo Donghyeon out, Cuba comes back, beats Korea

Doo Donghyeon out, Cuba comes back, beats Korea

Korea relieved starting pitcher Doo Donhyeon and blew a two-run lead in the top of the fifth. The bullpen allowed five walks in 1.1 innings and Cuba came from behind to earn the third consecutive win in the super round

Cuba beat Korea, 10-8 and has now swept the super round, improving its record to 3-2.
Korea will definitely regret the move that took Doo Donghyeon out of the game with two outs in the top of the fifth. Korea was leading at that point 6-4 and Doo, the leadoff hitter, had reached on a pair of doubles.

When Korea’s manager Kim Sangyoup headed to the mound, he meant to keep Doo in the game and send right fielder Na Hyunseo to the mound. What happened is that Kim headed to the mound without giving any notice to the home plate umpire and thus he had to remove Doo.

Doo Donghyeon

Removing starter Doo Donghyeon didn’t turn out to be a good move for Korea

Doo Donghyeon had just got the second out of the frame on strikes and left the bases loaded for Na Hyunseo. The newcomer struggled with control and allowed three consecutive walks that reversed the lead. At the end of the fifth, Cuba was leading 7-6.

In the bottom half of the frame Korea manager to tie the game without a hit against Alejandro Cruz. Center fielder Lee Taeoh walked, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.

Cuba won it in the top of the sixth. Lim Hogil took the mound and allowed a single to shortstop Johan Rodriguez, then he walked the bases loaded. Stand out first baseman Christian Saez singled through the right side to make it 9-7 and Cuba added a run on a ground out.
Saez went 4 for 4, with a home run and 4 RBIs.
The two walks issued by Lim Hogil took the total for Korea to seven and starter Doo Donghyeon allowed only two over 4.2 innings of work. This means Korea’s bullpen allowed five over 1.1 innings of work.

Korea cut the gap on an RBI single by pinch hitter Lee Jaewon in the bottom of the sixth and when Na Hyunseo stepped to the box he represented the potential tying run.
Boris Sardui, the fourth pitcher by Cuba, retired him on a pop fly.
