Argentina will advance to the Super Round after breezing past Canada 10-0 in five innings to improve their win:loss record to 3:2 and finish second in Group A. They join undefeated Australia and third-seed Czech Republic in the next phase of the U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
Franco Godoy fired three RBIs in their victory while pitcher Franco Saenz worked 5 innings, gave up 1 hit and struck out 5 Canadian batters. Reese Yantzi was credited for a strikeout in 2.2 innings (6 H, 6 R).
After two scoreless innings, Saenz batted Eloy Capdeboscq in to put Argentina on the board. Catcher Luciano Biondi then opened up for a run from Saenz before Godoy belted a three-run homer to cap a six-run barrage in the inning.
Capdeboscq scored once more in the fourth before a three-run rally pulled Argentina further in the fifth. Biondi hit a sacrifice fly to the left to bring Lucas Galarza home as Argentina finished the match 10-0.
