Batters James Garland, Joshua Routledge and Hayden Shaw displayed a home run masterclass as Australia eased past Singapore 11-0 on Monday to keep their 3-0 winning run at the U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup.
It was an all-around outing for the tournament’s top run-scorer Garland, as he scored two runs for the reigning junior champions and pitched in two innings for a hit and four strikeouts. Hunter Blake also contributed with a two-inning pitching effort, with two hits and three strikeouts.
Garland got things going early with a first-pitch homer to the centre field to put Australia on the board in the first inning, then Tyler Kelly scored the second run on a wild pitch to close out the first inning with a 2-0 advantage.
Australia's offence exploded in the bottom of the second. Garland tripled in Routledge to open the 9-run rally, in an inning highlighted by the 3-run homers by Hayden Shaw and Routledge.
Australia remains undefeated, on top of the standings in Group A with three wins.
