Mexico, USA Women’s National Softball Teams series cancelled due to bad weather

Both USA and Mexico Women’s National Teams will continue indoor training and practice sessions in Dallas.

USA Softball announced on Wednesday the cancellation of the three-game series between the US Olympic Softball Team and Mexican Olympic Softball Team due to inclement weather in the Dallas area. The three games, scheduled for this weekend, were expected to be the first international softball contests of the year.

The U.S. National Weather Service alerted on Wednesday that freezing drizzle and light freezing rain could fall, while ice accumulation of up to a quarter of an inch is possible in the Dallas area.

Both USA and Mexico Women’s National Teams will continue indoor training and practice sessions in Dallas, in preparation for softball’s historic Olympic return at the Tokyo Olympics.

USA, the world’s top ranked nation, will open the Olympic softball competition against world No. 10 Italy; while Mexico, ranked fifth in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking, will make their debut in the Olympic stage against No. 3 Canada. Both games will be played at Fukushima Azuma Stadium on 21 July, right after the opening game between Japan and Australia which will be the first official competition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Just a few days ago, Softball Australia also announced the cancellation of the Australia Pacific Cup because of health precautions and travel restrictions.
