Nepal to cooperate with International School Sports Federation

The agreement aims to increase baseball/softball school activity and international participation. "It opens the door to a brighter future for our athletes," commented the National Baseball Softball Association President Dipak Neupane.

The Nepal Baseball Softball Association (NBSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nepal School Sports Federation (NSSF) and the International School Sports Federation (ISF) to increase baseball/softball school activity, promote the sport, increase international participation and develop new infrastructure.

"I am thrilled with the signing of this MoU," NBSA President Dipak Neupane commented. "This partnership is a huge opportunity for baseball/softball development in Nepal. It will allow an increase in the scale of competition. The agreement demonstrates our commitment to the sport and opens the door to a brighter future for our athletes."

The ISF was established in 1972 and has 134 member countries or territories in the five Olympic continents.

Baseball was introduced in Nepal in the 1980s by a group of youth who had returned from the United States but had limited development. In 1999, students from the Poole Gakuin University, led by Akamatsu Hiroaki, formed a Baseball Promoting Group.

The first baseball tournament was played at the high school level in 2001. Baseball was introduced at the Kathmandu University in 2003. The first team, named Laligurans, was founded in 2005.

The NABSA was established in 2009. The federation participated in the International Baseball Federation Congress in 2013.

NBSA launched in January the first Nepal Baseball5 National Championship.
