Third Australian Women's Baseball Showcase confirmed for May; Beacom signs for US college baseball

From 9 to 12 May, the Albert Park Baseball Complex in Lismore, New South Wales (200km south of Brisbane), will host the event's third edition, which involves emerging Australian talent and international players from Canada, Japan and the United States. Meanwhile, the star of the 2022 edition, Genevieve Beacom has committed to East Central Community College in Kansas, USA.

Baseball Australia announced that Lismore in northern New South Wales, will host the third Australian Women's Baseball Showcase from 9 to 12 May at the Albert Park Baseball Complex.

The Adelaide Giants, Brisbane Bandits, and Victorian Aces will play a four-day tournament involving emerging Australian talent and international players from Canada, Japan and the United States. The New South Wales Government supports the event.

"As we celebrate the third Australian Women’s Showcase, the thrill of witnessing some of the world’s best female players competing against Australia’s finest will be another great spectacle," commented Glenn Williams, Baseball Australia CEO. "It’s an exciting event which we hope will inspire baseball players around Australia and across the globe. We are thankful to the New South Wales Government for their support of this event – it will be great to see the Aces, Bandits and Giants battle it out in front our baseball future."

Tara Moriarty, Minister Regional New South Wales added: "The New South Wales Government is committed to supporting events that encourage female participation in sport like the Women’s Baseball Showcase."

During the same days, Lismore, which is located 200km south of Brisbane, will host the U-13 women's baseball finals.

Adelaide hosted the inaugural Women's Baseball Showcase in 2020, while Geelong hosted the second edition in 2022.

Meanwhile, the star of the 2022 Showcase, Genevieve Beacom, announced she committed to East Central Community College in Kansas, USA.

The 19-year-old debuted for Australia at the 2023 Women’s Baseball World Cup in Canada. She will now head to the USA to further her academic and athletic career where she will be one of the only women playing US college baseball.

Beacom, who will turn 20 in October, became the first Australian woman to sign a professional contract when she joined the Melbourne Aces at 17.

She is the second Australian woman to play college baseball in the US after Luisa Gauci.
After completing her collegiate playing career, Gauci became a minor league hitting coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.
