Asian Baseball Championship originally set for 2021 postponed again

The new dates of the event have not yet been determined.

The Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) has announced the postponement of the XXX Asian Baseball Championship. The event was originally scheduled for 2021 and had been rescheduled for March 2022.

The decision came after BFA discussed the matter with the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) and host city Taichung.

"Due to the severity of the recent surges on infections globally caused by the hyper-contagious Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, making international travel highly restricted and risky, the organization of any international tournaments at this time is next to impossible and costly," stated BFA in a press release.

BFA added its appreciation of CTBA and the local authorities in Taichung.

The exact date of the XXX Asian Championship have not been determined.

"BFA will continue to monitor the situation with the pandemic and will discuss the best dates to organize the BFA Asian Championship," stated the press release.

Chinese Taipei is the defending champion. They defeated Japan in the final on 20 October 2019 in Taichung to win the XXIX edition. China defeated Korea to earn a bronze medal.
The tournament awarded two spots for the WBSC Final Qualifier to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
