The 2020 baseball and softball seasons in Brazil have been cancelled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the Brazilian Baseball and Softball Confederation (CBBS) announced today through a short statement.
“Following the instructions of the CBBS Medical Department, the Technical Department of this Confederation has decided that there won’t be any official competitions in 2020. This measure is valid for every age category, both in baseball and softball,” said the statement.
Currently, Brazil has one of the highest volume of coronavirus transmissions in the world, with more than 4.5 million positive cases having been confirmed.
Brazil is currently ranked 21st in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings, 14th in women's softball and 45th in men's softball.
