Baseball5 Asia Cup: Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong advance to semifinals

Top-seeded Chinese Taipei is the lone undefeated team in the championship. Japan is seeded second with a 4-1 record, Korea (3-2) third and Hong Kong (2-3) fourth. The semifinals and medal round are scheduled for Friday, 19 July. The top three finishers will earn a spot in the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

The semifinal matchups are set for the inaugural Basebal5 Asia Cup, with Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong being the final four teams in medal contention. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Friday, 19 August, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Chinese Taipei outscored the opponents 54-1, with Japan being the only team capable of scoring against them in a 3-1 game.

Japan shut out Singapore, Malaysia and Korea 40-0, while Korea earned their two wins against Hong Kong, 9-3, and Singapore, 9-1.

Hong Kong beat Malaysia, 10-8, in an elimination game for the fourth spot in the medal round. Malaysia entered the fifth with a 7-5 lead. Hong Kong scored three in the top of the fifth, and the hosts came back to tie it in the bottom half of the frame. Hong Kong scored two in the tie-breaker and earned the critical win.

9:00 Japan vs. Korea
10:30 Chinese Taipei vs. Hong Kong

The winners of the semifinals will meet in the finals at 1:30 p.m. and clinch spots into the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup this November in Mexico City, while the losers of the semifinals will play for the bronze (12:00 p.m.) and last remaining World Cup ticket.
