The field of teams for the Pan American Games Lima 2019 is now completed, after the end of the groups stage of the Pan American Games baseball qualifier. World No. 10 Canada, No. 12 Dominican Republic, No. 14 Colombia and No. 15 Nicaragua join the already qualified No. 5 Cuba, No. 11 Puerto Rico, No. 21 Argentina and No. 39 Peru (host) in the baseball competition of the biggest multisport event in the Americas.

In Group A, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Mexico tied in the first place, with a 2-1 record, but the first two squads secured a spot in the next Pan American Games by the tie breaking rule. Host Brazil lost the three games played and was also eliminated.

Colombia (2-0) and Canada (1-1) advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in Group B, and clinched their ticket to Lima. Panama had a winless group stage and was eliminated.

This way, both Colombia and Nicaragua remain in the hunt of an Olympic spot in the historic baseball’s Olympic return in Tokyo 2020, since the top two national teams in Lima, not counting the Premier12 teams from the Americas, will advance to the Americas Baseball Olympic Qualifier, slated to be played in March 2020 in Arizona, USA.

Tomorrow, Dominican Republic will face Canada in the first semifinal, and Colombia will play against Nicaragua.

The XVIII Pan American Games are scheduled to begin on Friday, 26 July 2019, in Lima. The baseball tournament will open on Saturday, 27 July, and the gold medal game is scheduled on Sunday, 4 August.
