Canadian U-18 Baseball World Cup heroes mark MLB career milestones
Cal Quantrill earned his first win as a starting pitcher, while Josh Naylor collected his first hit. They both play for the San Diego Padres and helped Canada earn a silver medal in the U-18 Baseball World Cup 2012
Saturday, 25 May, is a day to remember for Baseball Canada. Two U-18 National team alumni celebrated against the Toronto Blue Jays milestones in their Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the San Diego Padres.
Starting pitcher Cal Quantrill earned his first MLB win going six innings and allowing only three runs on two hits, both home runs, and striking out nine.
Quantrill, born 1995, was a 2016 first-round pick at the amateur draft and has started four games for the Padres in this 2019 season. He previously started seven games at AAA El Paso.
He starred for silver medal Canada at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2012.
Josh Naylor played right field and collected his first hit. He contributed to the Padres 19-4 wins with three hits and two runs batted in.
Naylor, born 1997, made his Major League debut on the day before.
He was on Canada’s silver medal team in 2012 and played in two more U-18 Baseball World Cups: 2013 and 2015.
