Czech Softball Men’s Extraleague semi-finals set to open on 19 September

The 10-team tournament is now down to the top four in the Central European country: Sportclub 80 Chomutov, Žraloci Ledenice, Hroši Havlíčkův Brod and Tempo Praha.

The Czech Men’s Extraleague Super Round finished last weekend with the top four teams in the country advancing to the semi-finals. Sportclub 80 Chomutov, Žraloci Ledenice, Hroši Havlíčkův Brod and Tempo Praha will go head to head for the Czech Softball national championship on 19 September.

Led by national team member Marek Maly, Sportclub 80 Chomutov ended on top of the Super Round standings with 20 wins and eight losses, and will face Tempo Praha (16-12) in the semi-finals. Chomutov was the only team to reach the 20-win mark.

The second semi-final will be played between Hroši Havlíčkův Brod and Žraloci Ledenice (defending national champion), which finished the Super Round with the same 19-9 win-loss record.

Originally scheduled to begin in the middle of April, opening day of the Extraleague was postponed to June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This delay forced the Czech Softball Association to change the tournament system. During the regular season, teams played only one doubleheader against each other instead of two doubleheaders as originally planned. Then the top six teams advanced to the Super Round.

The Czech Softball Women’s Extraleague will finish the Super Round on Sunday, 13 September. The top two teams in the standings will make the semi-finals, while 3rd to 6th will play the quarterfinals.
