Dominican Republic unveils 28-man roster for WBSC Premier12

Led by veteran pitchers Ervin Santana, Enny Romero and Neftali Feliz, the Dominican Republic will carry a 15-players pitching staff to Guadalajara, Mexico, to play the Opening Round of the Premier12

World No. 12 Dominican Republic unveiled its roster for the Premier12 2019, the biggest international baseball competition of the year. Manager Luis Rojas and General Manager Jose Gomez presented the 28 players to wear the Dominican jersey in the second edition of the global event.

Led by veteran pitchers Ervin Santana, Enny Romero and Neftali Feliz, the Dominican Republic will carry 15 pitchers to Guadalajara, Mexico, to play the Opening Round of the Premier12.

Among the position players, the roster includes two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. Veteran outfielder Mel Rojas Jr., who just finished a solid season with KT Wiz of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), is expected to lead the lineup.

“I’m very happy and proud of the talent that will represent us in the Premier12,” said Manager Rojas. “Our roster is deep enough to use different strategies during the tournament.”

“We have a mix of veteran players and young high-level prospects,” said General Manager Jose Gomez. “I think we have a team that represents the Dominican baseball as a whole, in the hunt of the Olympic dream.”

The Dominican Republic will open the Premier12 Group A facing host Mexico on 2 November. The day after, they will take on No. 8 the Netherlands, and will close the Opening Round on 4 November against No. 2 USA.

The Dominican Republic finished in the last place in the Premier12 2015, with a 0-5 overall record. This year the Caribbean nation aims to finish as the top team from the Americas and seal a spot in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
