IV WBSC Congress to be rescheduled for later in 2022

The WBSC will take all possible and practical steps to hold this year’s WBSC Congress, an elective congress, in person or at the very least in a hybrid format.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced the postponement of the IV WBSC Congress, which had been set to take place from 12-13 April in Taipei City, Taiwan.

“Due to the ongoing global pandemic, and in the interests of the safety and well-being of WBSC delegates, the WBSC Executive Board has determined, in conjunction with the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA), to postpone the congress to a later date in 2022,” said WBSC Secretary General Beng Choo Low. “The WBSC Executive Board and Management, in conjunction with CTBA, will continue to monitor the situation and will give three months’ notice in due course of the proposed new dates.”

According to WBSC’s newly adopted governance policy approved in December 2021, a Congress or Extraordinary Congress may take place in person, in writing or by way of electronic means (“Virtual Congress/Extraordinary Congress”) or a combination of in person and by way of electronic means (“Hybrid Congress/Extraordinary Congress”).

The WBSC will take all possible and practical steps to hold this year’s WBSC Congress, an elective congress, in person or at the very least in a hybrid format. Nevertheless, if due to the ongoing pandemic the WBSC Executive Board does not believe it practicable to call such an in person/hybrid Elective Congress before the end of 2022, a virtual WBSC Congress will be called.
