Colombian MLB catcher Jorge Alfaro thanks medical community, encourages others to #StayHome

The video message (in Spanish) expresses appreciation for what medics and paramedics are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic and sends a #StayHome recommendation.

Big leaguer and Colombian National Team catcher Jorge Alfaro has always been comfortable behind home plate and is now setting an example by staying home in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.

The Colombian Baseball Federation (FCB) describes Alfaro as "the nation's pride in Major League Baseball".

Alfaro lives in the U.S. for most of the year, but he goes back to his homeland during the offseason.

While quarantined like anybody else, Alfaro sent a video message through his National Federation to express his appreciation of the work that medics and paramedics are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We need to support them working as a team," says Alfaro, who recommends everybody to #StayHome and sends everybody a blessing.

Alfaro was born in June 1993 in Sincelejo, in the Department of Sucre, Colombia. The catcher appeared in 130 MLB games for the Miami Marlins during the 2019 season, connecting for 18 home runs. He was ready to claim the 2020 starting catcher role for the Marlins, prior to the postponement of the MLB season.

He turned pro in 2010 with the Texas Rangers organization.

In 2017, Alfaro represented Colombia at the World Baseball Classic, playing catcher, first baseman and designated hitter. His home run sent the game against the Dominican Republic to the extra-innings, but the Dominicans ended up winning in the eleventh.
