Netherlands blanks Germany twice to sweep second leg of women’s softball friendly series

The orange squad beat their neighbours by 7-0 and 10-0 in Enschede, in Games 3 and 4 of the WBSC-sanctioned friendly series.

The Netherlands women’s softball national team held Germany scoreless over two games on Sunday to clinch matches 3 and 4 of the WBSC-sanctioned friendly series. The Dutch team clinched the first game of the day with a six-inning, 7-0 win; while a six-run first inning set the tone for a 10-0 victory in the second match. The games were played in Enschede, Netherlands.

On the first game of the day, veteran Rebecca Soumeru shut out the visiting team in six innings, while Laura Wissink and Jessie van Aalst collected two RBI each to lift the Netherlands to a 7-0 win.

Eva Voortman was dominant from the circle in the second match, and received strong support from her offence to take the game in only four innings, 10-0. Riangela Flanegin hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and singled in the 10th run of the game in the fourth inning, collecting a total of five hits on the day.

Both nations had previously met in Cologne, Germany on Sunday, 12 July, when the Netherlands and Germany played their first international softball games since the coronavirus outbreak. In those two games in Wesseling, Germany, the Netherlands also swept Germany, 9-1 and 12-2.

The Netherlands and Germany have faced each other thirteen times now, with the Dutch team winning all 13 encounters.

Next month, the two neighbour nations will face each other for the third and final leg of the series.
