Philippines lead at SEA Games baseball, softball

The host team remains undefeated in the three competitions: baseball, women's softball and men's softball. Two softball games were postponed due to rain.


After two competition days, the Philippines remain undefeated and lead the 30th SEA Games baseball and softball events. Two softball games were postponed due to rain.

In men's baseball, Thailand and the Philippines won their games on Tuesday against Singapore and Cambodia respectively, at The Villages, Clark, Pampanga, Philippines.

In a high scoring game, Thailand earned their first win of the event after topping Singapore, 12-7. In the second game, the Philippines remained undefeated with an 8-inning victory over Cambodia by a score of 12-0.

The Philippines leads the standings after two days, with two wins, followed by Indonesia (1-0), Thailand (1-1), Cambodia (0-1) and Singapore (0-2).

The softball competition saw two matches today (3 December) postponed, following a heavy rain. 

In the women’s event, Malaysia kept their hopes of a medal alive with a narrow 2-1 victory over Thailand. In the second game of the day, hosts the Philippines defeated Indonesia by a score of 11-1, in four innings, and remain undefeated.

The last game of the day between Malaysia and Singapore had to be postponed due to rain, and will be played on Thursday.

The top four teams after the round robin will advance to the playoffs, slated to open on Friday under the page system.

In the only men’s softball game of the day, the Philippines collected their second win in the event, 7-3, over Indonesia. With the game tied at three, the host team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the game. The Philippines play Singapore on Wednesday in their final preliminary game. Paragraph

Singapore’s match against Thailand was rained out on Tuesday and will be played on Thursday. After the round robin, the four teams will play the page-system playoffs, starting on Friday.
