Softball and Baseball among first sports confirmed for 1st Junior Pan American Games 2021 in Cali, Colombia

Softball will be featured alongside 25+ sports at the inaugural Junior (U-21) Pan American Games 2021. Baseball, as one of the top sports in the Americas, is also confirmed.

CALI, Colombia -- Softball and Baseball, with their strong history and diffusion across the Americas, are two of the first sports to have been confirmed for the 1st Junior Pan American Games 2021 in Cali, Colombia.

“It’s a tremendous honour to be among the first sports revealed for the 1st Junior Pan American Games 2021,” said WBSC Softball Division Chairman Tommy Velazquez. “Being featured at international multi-sports events is a core part of the WBSC strategy to grow baseball and softball globally, and as we grow our sport, we actually deliver more value and traffic to events like the Pan American Games and the Olympics -- so it’s a win-win.”

Softball at “Cali 2021” will be played at the existing Simón Carbonell Stadium, which was renovated for the 2013 World Games. Velasquez visited the stadium yesterday, giving it a golden review as part of the ongoing legacy of the 1971 Pan Am Games in Cali.

Currently, an eight-team women’s softball tournament is planned, while Panam Sports leaders are expected to confirm the full Cali 2021 sports programme in the coming months. The 1st Junior Pan American Games is scheduled for 5-20 June 2021.
