Sri Lanka beats Afghanistan at West Asia Baseball Cup

LAHORE, March 26: Fine performance by batters and pitchers helped Sri Lanka to earn second consecutive win, outclassing Afghanistan 14-1 on the fourth day of the 10th West Asia Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Monday.

LAHORE, March 26:  Fine performance by batters and pitchers helped Sri Lanka to earn second consecutive win, outclassing Afghanistan 14-1 on the fourth day of the 10th  West Asia Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Monday.

Sri Lanka, who had defeated Iran in the first match 15-0, made an impressive start scoring seven runs in the first inning against Afghanistan. Kosala, Dampi, Niroshan, Sameera, Nelanka, Fupun and Naveed all contributed one run each, as Afghani pitchers failed to give any significant resistance to the rivals.

Sri Lanka further added two runs in the second inning as their Dumpi and Shalitha contributed one run each.

In the third inning, while Sri Lanka failed to move ahead, Afghanistan drew the first blood scoring one run through Sherali, which proved their solitary run of the match.

Sri Lanka, from there on dominated the field completely, getting one run in the fourth inning through Sameera and then piled up three runs in the fifth inning. Kosala, Niroshan and Naveen scored one run each in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, Sri Lanka plundered one more run to complete the tally.

Kosala, Dampi, Niroshan, Sameera, Nelanka, Naveen scored two runs each while Shalitha and Fupun chipped in with one run apiece.

Khyber Pukhtoon Khwan sports minister Syed Aaqil Shah was the chief guest. President Pakistan Federation Baseball president Mr. Shaukat  Javed, secretary Khawar Shah, POA associate secretary Haider Khan Lehri and  vice president of the PBF Mohsin Khan received the chief guest.

Iran will take on Afghanistan in the next match on Tuesday.
