Sri Lanka looks to boost baseball-softball popularity with new coaches programme

A total of 150 new coaches were certified from 23-25 September in the Central Province.

The Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball Softball Association (SLABSA) launched a programme to develop baseball and softball coaches in the Central Province. The programme is run under the guidance of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and in collaboration with the respective National Olympic Committee.

More than 150 coaches, officials, conditioning instructors and teachers participated in three seminars that SLBSA organized in Kandy, Wilgamuwa and Matale on 23, 24 and 25 September.

All of the participants received a certification.

SLABSA stated that the only way to make baseball/softball more popular in the country is through the development of coaches and instructors.

The country is currently ranked 37th in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings.
