Taoyuan County wins the Yu Shan Cup in Chinese Taipei

In a closely fought contest, Taoyuan County Team edged out New Taipei City 3-2 in the final to win the 2012 Yu Shan Cup. A total of 17 top teams from around the Island took part in this high school-level national competition.

In a closely fought contest, Taoyuan County Team edged out New Taipei City 3-2 in the final to win the 2012 Yu Shan Cup. A total of 17 top teams from around the Island took part in this high school-level national competition.

The game took place at New Taipei City’s “Hsinchuang” stadium this past weekend, packed by over 5,000 fans, indicating the level of support amateur baseball has in Chinese Taipei.

Starting pitcher Sheng Rong-Hong for Taoyuan County yielded only 2 runs on 5 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
Sheng was brilliant in his earlier outings, as he also earned MVP honors.

Second-place New Taipei City has its star performer, Tzan Chun-Hsiang, taking home the tournament’s Best Catcher Award, and also the honors for Most RBIs (12).

Other outstanding players from this tournament are also selected for the national Chinese Taipei squad, to participate in the upcoming IBAF 18U Baseball World Cup in Seoul, South Korea (Aug. 30 to Sept. 8).
