The executive process of the World Baseball Classic Qualifier got started on Tuesday July 24 in New York City. The team representatives met at the MLB Headquarters in Park Avenue to discuss various operational matters with the World Baseball Classic (WBC) organizers.
Included in the agenda are schedules, roster selection process, logistic arrangements as well as various administrative requirements and team representatives had a chance to address their questions to the organizers in person, while receving specific requirements to ensure all operations be in line with the regulations of the WBC events.
The qualifying event will open in the United States on September 19 in Jupiter, Florida (France, Israel, South Africa, and Spain) followed by Regensburg, Germany (Canada, Czech Republic, Great Britain and Germany) on September 20, Panama City (Brazil, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Panama) on November 14 and New Taipei City (Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, The Philippines, and Thailand) on November 15.
The winner of each of the 4 pools will compete in the main event next March together with top 12 finishers of the 2009 edition of the WBC. With the addition of the qualifying round, the WBC includes a total of 28 countries and will look to serve as a strong platform to further accelerate the growth and expansion of baseball worldwide.
