USA, Japan will compete for U-19 Women’s Softball World Title, Canada-Australia for bronze

At the end of the final day of the super round we will know which teams will compete in the medal round of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup

The final day of the super round determined the National Teams competing in the final and in the bronze medal game of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup.
The USA will play Japan in the World Championship game at 2 pm (local time, US Pacific Coast) on Saturday, 17 August. Before the final, at 11 am (local time), Canada and Australia will play for a bronze medal.

 

The USA claimed the fifth Super Round win over China, 6-0, and clinched the first place and a spot in the World Championship Game. A brilliant performance by Montana Fouts and Alexis Kilfoyl led the two-time defending world champions to victory.

A nine-run first inning set the pace and Japan went on to beat Mexico, 11-0 in four innings, and join the USA in the World Championship game. Remy Shingu earned the win going 3.2 innings.

Canada beat Puerto Rico, 5-4, and through its fifth win in the super round earned a spot in the bronze medal game of the WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup.
Canada rested some of its key players but called them from the bench when they were needed. Grace Messmer batted in the winning run with a pinch-hit single and Madelyn Hickingbottom earned the win pitching 3.2 innings in relief.

Australia could not match Chinese Taipei as long as they tried to play the same game, but when they let their bats go, they put together a 17-hitter seventh at-bat, scored eleven runs and won 12-3.
Mexico and Puerto Rico are eliminated by their five losses and the advantage in the head to head gives already Australia a spot in the bronze medal game.

Puerto Rico beat Mexico, 4-3, in a close game that spoiled Mexico’s chances to make the medal round. A defensive error in the bottom of the sixth costed Mexico the game.
Esperanza Coe pitched 1.2 innings in relief and earned the win.

The USA defeated Australia, 9-0 in 5 innings, to complete the sweep of the super round.

In the last game of the super round Chinese Taipei defeated China, 3-2, in an eight-inning drama.
Yu Suan Feng earned the win pitching 6.1 innings in relief and striking out 10. Chi Yun Lin got the game-winning hit in the top of the eighth.
Chinese Taipei regrets the loss against Australia, that cost them the opportunity to play for bronze.
