USA Baseball, MLB introduce “Fun at Bat” in Puerto Rico
The bat and ball programme designed for use in elementary school physical education classes aims to reach 90,000 students throughout the island. The Department of Education: “You can count on our commitment”
Fun at Bat, the bat and ball programme designed for use in elementary school physical education classes throughout the United States, will be available to all elementary school students in Puerto Rico.
A joint Major League Baseball (MLB) and USA Baseball youth programme, Fun at Bat promotes fun and active lifestyles for children, while also teaching the fundamental skills of bat and ball sports.
The introduction of Fun at Bat will be administered by the Puerto Rico Department of Education. The goal is to reach nearly 90,000 students throughout the island. The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation, as well as Baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar, are supporting the initiative.
“Puerto Rico has proven to be one of our sport’s greatest resources of talent and passion over the years. We are confident that the presence of this introductory programme will further ensure that youth from Puerto Rico will have direct and regular opportunities to play the game,” said Tony Reagins, MLB Executive Vice President of Baseball and Softball Development. He added: “One of our main goals at MLB is to make baseball and softball as accessible as possible.”
.@FunAtBat has arrived in Puerto Rico! All of the nearly 90,000 elementary school students on the island will now have the program as part of their P.E. curriculum.

Fun at Bat is currently reaching more than one million children in the USA. Franklin Sports has created custom Fun at Baseball equipment.
The programme is part of the Play Ball initiative that MLB launched in 2015.
