April 6 is the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), and the WBSC is proud to support again this important initiative, recognizing the transformative power of sport and its great potential in advancing positive social change.

This day provides an annual opportunity to celebrate the power of sport to drive social change, community development, to encourage equity and inclusion and to foster peace and understanding between individuals, communities and nations.

Baseball and softball have a long history of serving as a platform for strengthened relations, cooperation and diplomacy between countries, races and people of all backgrounds. National Baseball and Softball Federations around the world are spreading the Peace and Sport movement today.

The WBSC partnered with Peace and Sport, being very active in the promotion of the sport as a powerful tool to change people’s life. Last year, the WBSC introduced the Baseball5 initiative in the Friendship Games in Burundi, Africa, a trans-border multi-sports event which gathered up to 200 children from Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, to promote peace through sport in underserved areas. Baseball5 project in Burundi also received a nomination for the 10th edition of the Peace and Sport Awards.
