The WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier opened today in Surrey, Canada, with four games. Mexico, Venezuela, Canada and Guatemala won their respective games and took the lead in the standings.
Dominican Republic 3-7 Venezuela
Mirian Jimenez and Yulexys Barrios produced five runs with a pair of homers to guide Venezuela to victory over Dominican Republic, 7-3, in the first day of competition of the WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier. Venezuela recovered from a 3-1 deficit to claim the first win of the tournament.

Peru 0-8 Mexico
Mexico opened the Group B of the WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier with an 8-0, five-inning victory over Peru at Softball City in Surrey, Canada. Victoria Vidales produced 3 runs for the winner, including a no-doubter in the second inning to lead her offense.

Cuba 0-17 Canada
Canada opened the Road to Tokyo with a solid win over Cuba, based on an impressive offensive demonstration and a strong pitching performance. The host team defeated Cuba, 17-0, in three innings and claimed the first win of the Olympic qualifier’s Group A. Canada exploded in the second inning with 15 runs and secured the game.

Guatemala 9-4 Bahamas
Guatemala and Bahamas faced each other on Day 1 of the WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier, with a 9-4 victory for the Central American nation. Josselline Monge went the distance and earned the win for Guatemala.
